This will continue till 30 June 2019. After this date, you can’t ride a non registered electric scooter anymore (so register early!).
Take note: whether your e-scooter is certified under the UL2272 safety standard or not is irrelevant at this stage. You must register them with LTA.
If you are a proud owner of the UL2272-certified Segway-Ninebot ES2 electric scooter, congrats!
Unlike non certified e-scooters – which can only be used till 31 December 2020 – you can use your UL2272-certified device past 1 January 2021.
Fun fact: Only e-scooters that have passed all PMD electrical safety tests set by Underwriters Laboratories can be branded as UL2272-certified.
Whether you are registering online or physically at SingPost, you’ll need to first take some photos of your e-scooter. These are the photos you must prepare to submit to the registration officers:
2. A colourised photo of the UL2272 safety certification mark on your e-scooter (if your device is UL2272-certified)
Make sure you print out hard copies of your e-scooter if you’re registering at SingPost. On the other hand, do submit soft copies for online registration.
Depending on where you’re registering, there are several additional items you’ll have to get ready:
3. Bring your original NRIC/FIN
4. Fill in an application form (which you can find at any SingPost post offices)
5. A $20 registration fee (payable in cash or NETS)*
3. A $20 registration fee (paid via credit card or eNETS)*
* You won’t need to pay this fee so long as you register before 1 April 2019.
After the registration process, you will be receiving a unique identification number. Next, you will need to approach a professional to fabricate an e-scooter identification mark that bears your identification number.
If you don’t already know who to approach to get your identification mark printed, come to us. We print our identification mark stickers on high resolution, outdoor solvent ink on 3M IJ15 Digital Print Film.
This is then finished with a 3M Overlaminate to protect against colour fading and surface abrasion.
There will also be an additional LTA registration mark given to you if you registered physically at SingPost (the LTA registration mark will be mailed to those who registered online).
Take note: You have a grace period of 14 days to paste both the identification and LTA registration marks prominently on your e-scooter.
Note: If you own a certified e-scooter, be sure to “tick” the box on the registration form that asks if your e-scooter is UL2272-certified.
The good news about owning a UL2272-certified electric scooter: your e-scooter license (aka your unique registration mark) will last you for a lifetime.
For non UL2272-certified electric scooter users who have gone through registration, your e-scooter license will be valid from now till 31 December 2020. After this day, you can’t ride your device on public paths anymore – unless you switch to a UL2272-certified e-scooter.
